The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) organization early on Tuesday received a report of the small craft circling in the Red Sea about 57 nautical miles northwest of Eritrea's Assab.
According to the report the small an unidentified craft was fired at by a larger ship off the coast of Yemen.
The incident took place just north of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, where Iran-backed Houthi rebels have been attacking commercial ships heading northwards toward Israel.
The vessel and its crew fired warning shots at the small craft, which eventually disappeared, before they returned to a nearby port, and Vessel and crew were reported safe and are proceeding to their next port.
Various shipping lines have been forced to suspend operations through the Bab al-Mandab Strait following months of attacks by Houthi rebels, instead taking the longer journey around Africa.
