The Office of the United Nations Secretary General Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, issued a statement of his behalf stating that he is closely following the ongoing developments in Hadramawt and Al Mahra.

The statement published on the office’s facebook page added that the UN envoy reiterates the Secretary-General’s call for restraint, de-escalation, and dialogue, and urges all parties to avoid actions that could further complicate the situation.

The statement concluded that Special Envoy underscores the importance of ongoing regional mediation efforts and remains engaged with Yemeni and regional stakeholders in support of de-escalation and progress toward a comprehensive and inclusive political solution to the conflict in Yemen.

This UN call comes at a time when Yemen’s eastern provinces, particularly Hadramawt, are experiencing tension following the Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces’ incursion into the two provinces, leading to violent clashes resulting in deaths and injuries.

This has raised concerns about repercussions on security and stability in one of the relatively more stable regions in recent years.
