A Houth rebels’-run court in Sana’a has continued the trial of several former employees of the U.S. Embassy, accusing them of espionage and collaboration with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

According to the Houthi-controlled SabaNet outlet report, the court’s latest session reviewed what it described as “evidence” in the case of defendants allegedly involved in a “spy cell working for the enemy.”

The report claimed that five defendants were confronted with evidence including “confessions during interrogations” and “statements recorded by prosecutors.”

The alleged evidence also included information gathered on Yemen’s political, security, and economic situation, reports on political parties, the Southern Movement, and the National Dialogue Conference, as well as correspondence with U.S. officials who visited Yemen and documents from communication devices.

The trial comes amid ongoing criticism from human rights groups and international observers, who accuse the Houthis of using the judiciary as a political tool and raise concerns over the treatment of detainees.
