Israel launched intensive airstrikes on Sunday targeting several sites in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, which is under the control of the Houthi rebels.
The attack was described as the most violent since the recent tensions began.
Israeli media, citing a military source, reported that the strikes focused on a military complex near the presidential palace, a fuel storage site, and government energy facilities controlled by the rebels. They noted that the attack occurred less than an hour after the Israeli army announced the interception of a missile launched by the Houthis toward Israel, carrying a cluster warhead—a first of its kind.
Local sources in Sana’a said the airstrikes targeted over 15 scattered locations within the city, causing panic among residents and damaging infrastructure and populated areas.
Reuters, citing eyewitnesses, reported hearing successive explosions near the presidential complex and sites believed to be missile bases, amid heightened security and military alertness in the city.
Conversely, military sources indicated that the Houthi rebels, under the direct supervision of Iranian experts, continues to launch missiles toward Israeli targets intermittently without causing direct casualties. In response, Tel Aviv continue to carry out large-scale airstrikes that often target vital Yemeni facilities and infrastructure.
The sources confirmed that the Israeli strikes have not yet targeted prominent Houthi leaders have caused significant losses to critical installations, including ports, airports, power stations, and cement factories. This has led to mutual accusations of pursuing a scorched-earth policy at the expense of civilians.
