Local security authorities in Shabwa Governorate, southeastern Yemen, were able to free dozens of illegal Ethiopian immigrants from the grip of a gang that included some of their countrymen who had kidnapped them for the purpose of financial extortion.
A security media center affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the internationally recognized government said that the security campaign carried out by the police of the Ataq Directorate in Shabwa Governorate, on Sunday, was able to free 41 kidnapped Ethiopians in a location south of the city.
Local police spokesman said they carried out the campaign after receiving information that Ethiopian immigrants were being detained by a gang for the purpose of financially blackmailing them, as it was torturing them and communicating with their families to request the transfer of sums of money in exchange for their release. .
