Houthi rebels will likely maintain the intensity of their actions against Marib city in the immediate to short term, according to a latest analysis by an International Security Advisory Board (JANES).

JANES, which is calling itself “the source for foundational military open-source intelligence” found that, the Houthis operations in Marib fronts are likely intended to secure the city's oil and gas infrastructure, and warned that the fall of Marib city would deny the Yemeni Internationally Recognized government its last significant population centre in northern Yemen.

These assessments are made with moderate confidence due to the historical precedent displayed by the Houthis in conducting large-scale military operations directed towards Marib, and their willingness to tolerate high levels of casualties due to the strategic value ascribed to the city

JANES reviewed the latest conflict events involving the Houthis and recorded 30 relevant armed conflict events in parts of Yemen, between 1st  and 22 January 2025, an 11% increase over the 27 events captured between 1 and 31 December 2024.

Those armed conflicts occurred, according to JANES , in Al Bayda, Al Dhale, Al Hudaydah,  Marib , Shabwa and Taiz governorates
