On the 24th anniversary of the landmark UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to advancing women’s meaningful participation and gender inclusion in Yemen’s peace process.

According to Grundberg, Yemeni women have consistently shown resilience, playing active roles in peace, security, and governance, despite being historically excluded from formal political processes and negotiations. Their contributions, and peacebuilding efforts have been invaluable in fostering stability across the country amidst ongoing conflict.

Women’s meaningful participation has proven to improve the quality and sustainability of peace processes. Over the course of last year, the UN has engaged over 400 Yemeni women and men through building a bottom-up vision for an inclusive peace process in Yemen, centering women’s priorities and laying the groundwork for a more inclusive peace process.
