The UN Envoy, Hans Grundberg, visited Washington where he met with senior US officials and discussed ways to advance a UN-led political process in the midst of regional military escalation that threatens peace prospects.
Grundberg highlighted at the talks the significance of maintaining the gains made possible by the parties' commitment to end hostilities nationwide, improve living conditions in Yemen, and begin political negotiations. He emphasized the importance of unified regional and international cooperation to support the parties in finalizing a UN roadmap and building on their commitments.
The sides also discussed the arbitrary detention by the Houthis of dozens of personnel from the UN, NGOs, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions and the referral of several of those to ‘criminal prosecution’. The UN Envoy reiterated his call for their immediate and unconditional release.
