The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) have vehemently denounced the death sentence imposed upon Taha Ahmed Rashid Al-Maamari by a Houthi-controlled court in Yemen, urging its immediate reversal and an end to the judicial harassment of journalists.

A prominent media owner, Al-Maamari was convicted on trumped-up charges in September, a chilling reminder of the perilous conditions faced by journalists in the war-torn nation. His media outlets were previously ransacked by the militia, and the recent verdict includes the seizure of his assets.

The Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate has unequivocally condemned the sentence, deeming it a blatant injustice and a grave threat to press freedom.
