After Yemen's Houthi rebel group claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on the USS Harry S. Truman carrier group in the Red Sea, social media posts shared a decades-old image falsely claiming it shows the damage from the strikes.
A US Navy report indicates the picture depicts the now-decommissioned USS Enterprise following a deadly fire in January 1969.
"Latest image of the USS Truman carrier after several strikes by the Houthis," reads the overlaid text on a TikTok video published on March 21, 2025.
The false claim surfaced after the Houthi rebels claimed they have targeted the USS Harry S. Truman carrier group off Yemen's coast with drones and missiles several times in March.
The U.S. administration has vowed to hit Houthi rebels with lethal and overwhelming force until they stop firing on the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
As of April 3, there are no official reports that the Houthis' attacks had caused serious damage to US warships.
