The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) office in Yemen warned that while coastal areas near the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, along with some isolated highlands, may see occasional light showers, these are usually inadequate for agricultural needs or replenish water sources.

FAO added that arid areas in Yemen, including the Eastern Plateau and various deserts, are likely to remain dry and that this decrease in precipitation deepens water scarcity, reduces soil moisture, and creates significant challenges for agricultural livelihoods.

In its AGROMETEOROLOGICAL EARLY WARNING BULLETIN, FAO found that Yemen is expected to continue experiencing temperature trends similar to the previous decade and that Highland regions, along with some eastern areas, will consistently face very low nighttime temperatures ranging from 0 to 6°C, increasing the risk of frost, especially in regions from the northwest part of Sa’ada to the southeast of Al Bayda, where the risk is relatively low.

FAO bulletin added that highland areas, such as in Dhamar and Sana’a Governorates will be on alert, while lowland and coastal regions will enjoy warmer daytime temperatures between 24 and 30°C, accompanied by cooler nights averaging 16 to 20°C.

The Eastern Plateau may also experience notably low nighttime temperatures of 6 to 12°C towards the end of December, according to FAO bulletin.

FOA bulletin concluded that the anticipated dry conditions and temperature fluctuations pose challenges for crop cultivation and livestock management.
