Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, has emphasized his opposition to exploiting the Yemeni crisis as an avenue for non-Red Sea bordering nations to engage in regional security arrangements.
In a meeting in Washington with US Special Envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, he emphasized the obvious link between Red Sea security and Horn of Africa stability.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis in line with the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative. Such a solution should meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviate their humanitarian suffering, he added.
Abdelatty also underlined Egypt's unshakeable support for Yemen's unity, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as Cairo's belief in the legitimacy of the Yemeni government and the independence of its state institutions.
For his part, the US diplomat asserted that reckless attacks by the Houthis harm Yemen and its neighbors, adding that Egypt is a valuable partner, and that the US is working towards regional stability and prosperity.
