The Global Peace Index (GPI), issued by the Institute for Economics & Peace, revealed in its latest report the 10 least safe countries in 2024. According to the index (GPI), Yemen, one of the most impoverished countries in the Middle East, tops the list, second to only South Sudan.
The 2024 GPI stated that Yemen has witnessed a consistent fall in peacefulness over the past year, adding that violent demonstrations, political instability, and neighboring countries' relations indicators have landed Yemen at the bottom of the index for 2024.
In the index (GPI), the countries of Sudan, Afghanistan, and Ukraine followed Yemen, which preceded only South Sudan. The list also included Congo, Russia, Syria, Israel, and Mali.
The Global Peace Index (GPI) measures a country’s state of peace by the level of "Societal Safety and Security,” the extent of "Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict," and the degree of “Militarisation."
