Yemen IRG and Houthi rebels agreed on several measures to de-escalate

The Internationally Recognized Government of Yemen (IRG) and Houthi rebels informed the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, that they agreed on several measures to de-escalate in relation to the banking sector and Yemen Airways , according to a statement by the office of the envoy.

The statement issued Monday added that the two sides agreed in accordance with a written text that includes the following: (the below is an informal translation of the text received from the parties):

“1. Cancelling all the recent decisions and procedures against banks by both sides and refraining in the future from any similar decisions or procedures.

 2. Resuming Yemenia Airways’ flights between Sana’a and Jordan and increasing the number of flights to three daily flights, and operating flights to Cairo and India daily or as needed.

 3. Meetings are convened to address the administrative, technical, and financial challenges faced by the company.

 4. Initiating the convening of meetings to discuss all economic and humanitarian issues based on the roadmap.”

According the envoy’s office statement , the parties requested the support of the United Nations in implementing their commitments.

The statement added the Grundberg recognized the significant role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in bringing this agreement about, and that he expressed the United Nations’ readiness to work with the parties to implement the measures they agreed.

Grundberg, according to the statement,  stressed the need for the parties to collaborate towards an economy that benefits all Yemenis and supports the implementation of a nationwide ceasefire and the resumption of an inclusive political process.
