Yemeni Airways, known as Yemenia, directed its sales agents in Europe, America, and Canada to notify their Yemeni passengers that they are not allowed to carry Starlink devices for satellite Internet service with them if they are heading to Yemeni airports.
Yemenia circular advised its sales agents in Europe, America, and Canada, that StarLink devices or similar devices are not allowed to be with their passengers ,whether as personal luggage or for air cargo.
This comes in light of reports that Elon Musk’s SpaceX is close to inking a deal to provide Starlink satellite internet to Yemen, an agreement that could dramatically boost connectivity for the war-torn country.
A senior Yemeni government official, who was not named as he did not have permission to discuss the negotiations, said the Yemeni Internationally Recognized Government is in the process of finalizing a licensing agreement with SpaceX, Starlink’s parent firm.
The deal, which would grant access to Starlink’s large network of satellites that orbit Earth and beam high-speed internet down to the surface, could still take around a month to complete, the Yemeni official said.
SpaceX did not immediately reply to Forbes’ request for comment.
